Wheat prices crash up to 9% in a day on FCI move

Wheat prices in Delhi crashed by 6-9% in a day on Friday as Food Corporation of India (FCI) issued tenders to sell wheat. The wheat flour (atta) prices are expected to cool down in 10 days, officials said. The central government and traders expect the prices to decline further after wheat starts reaching the four mills after the tendering process is over. Meanwhile, consumer affairs department secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said India will need to import 1 million tonnes of tur (pigeon pea) in 2023-24 because of a shortfall in production.
