In a noteworthy development, the Tata Group is poised to announce a strategic partnership with the U.S.-based chipmaker NVIDIA, following Reliance Industries Limited’s announcement of a similar collaboration earlier on September 8.
Reliance Industries Limited, under the leadership of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, revealed its partnership with NVIDIA to propel artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives in India. The collaboration is driven by the shared goal of advancing India’s AI and semiconductor chip ambitions while developing a robust foundation for large language models tailored for generative AI applications, particularly focusing on the nation’s diverse languages.
Under this partnership, NVIDIA will provide Reliance’s subsidiary, Jio, with comprehensive AI supercomputer technologies encompassing CPU, GPU, networking, and AI operating systems and frameworks to enable the development of cutting-edge AI models. Jio, in turn, will oversee the management and maintenance of the AI cloud infrastructure, along with customer engagement and access.
This AI infrastructure is set to be hosted in data centers that will expand to an impressive 2,000 megawatts, signaling a substantial commitment to advancing AI capabilities in India.
NVIDIA’s CEO and founder, Jensen Huang, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are delighted to partner with Reliance to build state-of-the-art AI supercomputers in India. India has scale, data, and talent. With the most advanced AI computing infrastructure, Reliance can build its own large language models that power generative AI applications made in India, for the people of India.”
The Tata Group’s forthcoming partnership with NVIDIA in the field of AI further underscores the growing momentum and significance of AI technologies in India’s business landscape. This strategic move comes after Reliance’s announcement and reinforces the commitment of leading Indian conglomerates to leverage AI for technological advancements and innovation.
The partnership aligns with Reliance’s overarching strategy of serving as a comprehensive digital, cloud, and networking platform, catering to the needs of both consumers and business customers. Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani, commented on the partnership, highlighting its potential to catalyze India’s digital transformation, akin to the pivotal role Jio played in the nation’s digital journey.
As the Indian business sector increasingly embraces AI and semiconductor advancements, these partnerships with NVIDIA are poised to drive substantial progress in India’s technological landscape, opening doors to new opportunities and innovations.
