Many believe that because of the subsequent lockdowns, which had a greater impact on streaming content, people got to see diverse cinema in the past two years. However, Nawaz feels this idea now looks like a myth.
According to him, in the last two years of pandemic, the way viewers got the opportunity to see world cinema it was expected that they will now have a better judgment of content, but after seeing the kind of films that are becoming box office hits right now, it seems nothing has changed.
This year, films like ‘ ’, ‘ ’ and now ‘ : Chapter 2’ have shattered all the box office records. Last year, ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ and ‘Sooryavanshi’ did the same ruling the box office.
Nawaz, who came into limelight after his stellar performances in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2’, has continued to deliver supreme performances in films like ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’, ‘Manto’, and the web series ‘Sacred Games’. He also maintains a swift balance with more mainstream films as well including ‘Kick’, ‘’, and the upcoming ‘Heropanti 2’ wherein he plays the antagonist.
In the same interview, the powerhouse actor stated that he still feels that superficial entertainment still overpowers artistic skills in Indian films. Nawazuddin thinks the way these big-budget films are taking over theatres small budget films will have more difficult times releasing their content on the big screen. However, the actor has thanked OTT platforms because these platforms give him the chance to watch good films.
