India Not Sending Troops To Sri Lanka, Indian Mission In Colombo Says As It Denies Reports

New Delhi: As Sri Lanka goes through a severe economic and political crisis, some rumours started floating over media and social media that India will send its troops to the island nation. However, on Wednesday morning, the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka denied any such possibilities saying that as much as they support the country and wish for a speedy recovery, India is not sending its troops there.

“The High Commission would like to categorically deny speculative reports in sections of media and social media about #India sending her troops to Sri Lanka. These reports and such views are also not in keeping with the position of the Government of #India,” the High Commission tweeted.

It further added, “The Spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs of India clearly stated yesterday that  #India is fully supportive of Sri Lanka’s democracy, stability and economic recovery.”
